CT presents to Poverty Action Group

Cycle Transitions participated in a forum hosted by the Northumberland Moving Forward Poverty Coalition on April 25th. Rick Nonnekes presented to this group of about 35 individuals representing various groups of Northumberland County who address poverty issues. The focus was on how social enterprises which make a difference in the lives of so many individuals can successfully start and maintain operations.  Our presentation looked at how Cycle Transitions grew from an idea discussed at one of Sustainable Cobourg’s Bicycle Action Committee meetings in 2011 to a start up in September of 2012.

The presentation and panel discussion were well received; we had good feedback, made a number of new contacts and learned a lot!

Canada Summer Works Program Funding Received – CT hiring!

With funding from the Canada Summer Works Program, Cycle Transitions will be hiring a student to assist with its activities. If you know of a student looking for summer employment, send him/her our way!

The funding will allow for 264 hours of employment.  Depending on how those hours are spread out, the job will be spread out over 10 or 12 weeks. We’ll be looking for a person with two main skill sets: working with people and mechanical (well, at least an aptitude for mechanical and some basic bicycle repair skills).  With May and June being our busiest months, the person will need to be available for up to 30 hours per week during that time period.
