Winter Cycling Workshop – November 24

Please note – our winter cycling workshop date has been changed from Thursday, November 3 to Thursday, November 24.

If you’ve ever considered riding your bike in winter, this is the workshop for you!  We’ll cover topics that will make this activity more enjoyable and successful.  Experienced winter riders will share the practices that work for them.

Here’s what we’ll cover:

  • how to set up your bike so that you can be safe on snow and ice,
  • how to limit the negative impacts of of salt and sand
  • what to wear so that you’ll be warm and comfy
  • which streets/routes in Cobourg are best for cycling in the winter
  • what riding techniques make you safer under the conditions

Member and Volunteer Appreciation Night

Cycle Transitions is holding a “Member and Volunteer Appreciation Night” on Thursday, October 20 at 7:00 pm. We’ll have lots of great food/snacks to nibble on, refreshments, a. We’ll note some of the highlights of our recent past including the fact that we’ve been operating successfully for over four years now!

Cycle Transitions Fall Workshop Series

Consider joining us for all, one or a few of our Thursday workshops this fall:

September 22sizing and set up: how to size a bike and set up the seat and handle bars for the type of riding you’re doing.

September 29gearing: how to gear properly for the road conditions.

October 13 – electric bikes: a demonstration model and a discussion of electric bike merits. Doug Radford, president of Go Pedelec Canada, will present a model of his locally based company. 

October 27 – bottom brackets: types, and how to maintain/repair/change.

 

Start time: 7 p.m.

Food/refreshments: cookies/doughnuts, juice/coffee/tea, fruit

Cost: free for Cycle Transition members and $5 per workshop for non-members.

Shop Hours Changes

Cycle Transitions is reverting to “off-season” hours to reflect the reduced activity in the shop at this time of year.  We will be open Tuesdays from 6:30pm to 9 pm and Saturdays from 9am to 12 noon.

Plans are now under wayfreewheelers for a series of workshops to be held occasional Thursday evenings through the fall – topics being discussed are: proper sizing of bicycles, proper positioning and height of seats, handle bars; how to change gears properly and which gears to use for road conditions; bottom brackets – changing, lubing, different types; preparing your bike for winter storage.  If you have other suggestions that you’d like to see on the slate, let us know.

Don’t forget that we’re closed this Saturday as we are for all holiday weekends.
