Grand Re-Opening on Saturday, April 14

We’re pleased to announce that we’re ready to open our doors at 390 King St W in Cobourg on Saturday, April 14.  The facilities are set up quite nicely thanks to the assistance of many volunteers! It’s looking good!

The Grand Re-Opening ceremony will take place at 10 am.  We’ve invited some special guests including Mayor Gil Brocanier to help us celebrate. The ceremony will allow us say a few words of thanks to the many folks who have assisted us, to the Town especially.  Following that we’ll have tours of the facilities, and there’ll be baked goods and refreshments to be had while we chat.

Please plan to join us at the ceremony or in the next while; we’re excited to show off the new facilities and assist you with your bicycle maintenance. Our hours of operation will be Monday and Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 9pm and Saturday mornings from 9am to noon.

Volunteer Mechanics Needed!

Cycle Transitions is excited about re-opening for business again on Saturday, April 14! It’s been seven and a half months since we closed the doors for the last time on D’Arcy St., a long time. Our new facilities at 390 King St W look great and will meet our needs very nicely.

Looking over our list of volunteer mechanics, we realize we’re going to need help! Some of our mechanics have moved away, others have had other commitments needing attention. So we could use a few more.

Will you consider helping out? We’ll train you and always schedule you with a “senior” or mentor mechanic. If you have any mechanical inclination, you’ll learn in no time at all. And it’s not all work, there’s lots of socializing and discussing the issues of the day.

Our hours of operations are somewhat different this time around – we’ll be open Monday and Wednesday evenings, 6:30 to 9pm, as well as Saturday mornings.

If you’re interested in checking out this volunteering possibility, reply to cycletransitions@gmail.com . We’ll arrange for an introduction and discussion about what could work.

Plans for The Move

If you haven’t already heard, CT has a new home – 390 King St W, the old Public Works building.  We are in the process of finalizing move-in details and plan to be up and running by mid-April. We extend words of appreciation to the Town Council and staff for making this possible!!

Our exact plans for moving in have not been finalized as we are awaiting keys, something we hope happens in the next day or two. Here are some tentative plans we give at this point:

  • Saturday, March 17 (morning) – clear space, mark layout for perimeter fence within building
  • Monday, March 19 to Friday, March 23 – installation of fencing
  • Saturday, March 24 (morning) – complete fencing, unload semi-trailer of stored assets (need lots of folks for this one!)
  • March 26 to April 13 – set up and preparations for opening
  • Nothing planned for Easter weekend
  • Saturday, April 15 – Grand Re-Opening!
If you are able and willing to assist with our preparations, please send an email to rnonnekes@gmail.com with particulars of how you can assist and your availability. A follow-up email will be sent out to confirm dates/activities.  We need help with the following:
  • Clearing stored materials from space alloted to us
  • Setting up partition fencing (and anchoring to cement floor)
  • Unloading semi-trailer
  • Setting up shop
  • Administration planning
  • Media – getting out the word that CT will be opening again
  • Planning the Grand Re-Opening
  • Refurbishing bicycles once the shop has been set up
As well, if you’d like to volunteer on a regular basis as a bicycle mechanic/assistant or an admin person (we’ll give lots of training), or in some other capacity, please let us know.

Cycle Transitions has NEW Premises!!

Great news! The Town of Cobourg has agreed to lease space in the old Public Works building (390 King St W) to Cycle Transitions. The building is a 7000 square foot refurbished storage/work garage of which CT will make use of approximately 2000 square feet. We hope to move in mid-March with a re-opening to take place the first week in April.

As more details are worked out and we are able to set dates, we’ll provide you with more information including a call for volunteers to assist with moving in and setting up. We’re looking at two Saturday mornings, one for clearing space and installing partition fencing, the other for unloading the storage semi-trailer and setting up the shop.

A reminder that all memberships will resume with the re-opening.

We express our gratitude to Cobourg Council and staff for assisting and supporting us. They really stepped up and made things possible!
