Community Power Northumberland Extends Grant To Cycle Transitions

Cycle Transitions received a $5,000 grant from Community Power Northumberland! CT is very excited about this as it gives our organization the means to address a number of areas; more time to assist members, promotion, and education.

In more detail, here’s how we’ll make use of the grant:

  1. $3,500 will replace the amount in our budget for selling refurbished bikes. While we will continue the practice because it keeps bikes out of landfills as well as providing an inexpensive transportation option, the additional funding and reorganization of labour will relieve the pressure to refurbish and give more time for helping members. It will also make the times when the shop is open into more of a social time and make these sessions more appealing to our volunteer mechanics.
  2. $1,000 will be used to promote Cycle Transitions to non-members in order to increase membership, to better engage with existing members, and to provide more social activities for volunteer mechanics.
  3. $500 will be used to reimburse Can Bike instructors for their annual Ontario Cycle Association certification and for keeping CPR/First Aid credentials up-to-date, helping us to continue our safe cycling sessions in local schools.

Cycle Transitions thanks CPN for its generous contribution to our efforts! CPN’s mission is to champion and develop community based renewable energy projects in Northumberland County. To find out more information about CPN, go their website at www.communitypowernorthumberland.ca.
